GMap: Drawing Graphs as Maps

چکیده
Abstract. Information visualization is essential in making sense out of large data sets. Often, high-dimensional data are visualized as a collection of points in 2-dimensional space through dimensionality reduction techniques. However, these traditional methods often do not capture well the underlying structural information, clustering, and neighborhoods. In this paper, we describe GMap: a practical tool for visualizing relational data with geographic-like maps. We illustrate the effectiveness of this approach with examples from several domains All the maps referenced in this paper can be found in www.research.att.com/∼yifanhu/GMap.

Visualizing Graphs as Maps with Contiguous Regions
Relational datasets, which include clustering information, can be visualized with tools such as BubbleSets, LineSets, SOM, and GMap. The countries in SOM-based and GMap-based visualizations are fragmented, i.e., they are represented by several disconnected regions. While BubbleSets and LineSets have contiguous regions, these regions may overlap, even when the input clustering is non-overlapping...
متن کاملSphere Anchored Map: A Visualization Technique for Bipartite Graphs in 3D
Circular anchored maps have been proposed as a drawing technique to acquire knowledge from bipartite graphs, where nodes in one set are arranged on a circumference. However, the readability decreases when large-scale graphs are drawn. To maintain the readability in drawing large-scale graphs, we developed “sphere anchored maps,” in which nodes in one set are arranged on a sphere. We describe th...
متن کاملGMAP: a genomic mapping and alignment program for mRNA and EST sequence
MOTIVATION We introduce GMAP, a standalone program for mapping and aligning cDNA sequences to a genome. The program maps and aligns a single sequence with minimal startup time and memory requirements, and provides fast batch processing of large sequence sets. The program generates accurate gene structures, even in the presence of substantial polymorphisms and sequence errors, without using prob...
متن کاملVisual Analysis Tool for Bipartite Networks
To find hidden features of co-authoring relationships, we focused on drawing techniques for bipartite graphs. We previously developed a drawing method called “anchored maps”, which is used to depict bipartite graphs visually. In anchored maps, some nodes are restricted to certain positions, but others are left to be arranged freely. In this study, we used our method to depict co-authoring relat...
متن کاملDrawing bipartite graphs as anchored maps
A method of drawing anchored maps for bipartite graphs is presented. Suppose that the node set of a bipartite graph is divided into set A and set B. On an anchored map of the bipartite graph, the nodes in A, which are called “anchor nodes,” are arranged on the circumference, and the nodes in B, which are called “free nodes,” are arranged at suitable positions in relation to the adjacent anchor ...
